Lando Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
Lando Norris has outscored Oscar Piastri at all of the past five grands prix.
Lando Norris just pipped team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the final moments of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the title advantage from Piastri by a single point after winning in Mexico City a fortnight back, outpaced the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver for most of the session before the sprint shootout scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the other racer in the championship fight, sitting 36 points behind Norris, was classified in 17th position as his team opted for a different programme.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to crash, though minor, when he spun at Turn Four during the early running.
The Japanese spun out over the exit kerbs before sliding over the run-off area, and was fortunate to avoid just a slight brush of the barrier.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the conclusion of the session, rotating twice through the fast downhill Mergulho turn before the final bend on to the start-finish straight.
Hamilton wrapped up in 19th place, one place behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber third fastest, 0.619secs slower than the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
